International Day of the Girl

The United Nations has designated October 11th as the International Day of the Girl Child. The mission of the day is “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an STEM for girlsopportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential. Education is a focus of the International Day of the Girl Child. There is no better time to provide girls worldwide with quality educational experiences on a daily basis in informal and formal environments. Special emphasis should be placed on providing girls with quality science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) experiences. By providing girls with STEM education experiences during their youth there is greater likelihood of greater representation of females in the STEM majors and fields. Also of importance is to educate the parents on providing quality STEM experiences for their daughters.
