Let’s Teach Math So It’s Interesting
Transforming public K-12 education via STEM education practices is on the rise throughout the nation and world. However, the M in STEM which stands for Math often gets a back seat to the exciting hands-on science, technology, and engineering experiences students are introduced to throughout their K-12 education. For students to enjoy the power and beauty of math, it needs to be taught so that it’s interesting as well as relevant. The learner must see the application of math concepts in their daily lives. Math, like science, technology, and engineering courses can be taught via a hands-on-minds-on, inquiry-based approach. Many educators are trying their best to make math more exciting but America has a long way to go. Check out the Chicago Tribune article by Stephanie Simon “America’s Struggle to Make Math Fun.”
